There’s a lore to the long-ago cattlemen that is alluring and inspiring, almost enviable. Ambition finds freedom in long days on dusty trails, living life under the open sky. Our great-great-grandaddy was one of the originals, and this collection aims to capture life through his lens.

We don’t know as much about Walker Riddle as we’d like to, he was an ancestor on Granny Eloise’s side and most of what we gleaned about him came from poring over faded photographs and handwritten captions, studying his hat, his horse, his saddle, his stance, even his comrades. Still, he left a lasting legacy, one that feels legendary and almost larger than life, of a drover on the famous Chisolm Trail.

This collection is a tribute to him, to our roots in ranching, and to our family heritage as a whole. It celebrates what is wonderful and romantic about the Western way of life. The palettes are earthy, the prints are authentic to the imagery of the era, and the hints of glamor are a nod to the riches of the ranchman when the gamble paid off.

There’s a spirit to Walker that resonates within us; of daring and drive, of risking it all and reaping the rewards, of believing in yourself and seizing your spot in this world in a way so bold your great-great-grandchildren will still be talking about it.

We’re descendants of Texas history, and now we intend to make it.

~ DDR: you never cease to amaze me. Not only is it the premier lifestyle brand; it is also designed with a family theme. Having a degree in Fashion Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology (NYC), working in the rag trade/retail sales, DDR offers a totally different aspect. While most designers are concerned with inspiration from Europe to base their next collections on, DDR does just the opposite. Drawing from familial ties and inspiration are characteristics that set DDR apart. When I discovered DDR in 2012, it was then that I cleaned out my closet, sold/donated all my corporate clothes for more practical ones: cowgirl hats, Old Gringo boots, jackets, jeans and turquoise. Always one to put my own spin on your clothes and a love of the old wild West, it suits my personal style just fine. ~

Western life has always intrigued me, even as a child. Why??? I can’t really say. It has always just been there. Horses saddles, fringe, leather, beading, and the list goes on. Why I never settled in the West, I don’t know. But you, and your family bring this interest back to me. You delve into your past, tell us things about your past relatives, clothing, ups, downs, just life growing up in Texas. I loved this story. Tk you for giving it to us.

Very interesting about Walker Riddle and love the photo. My great uncle Tom Dunson also road the Chisom Trail – which John Wayne played his character in The Red River. I have some taped recordings of family history – but sadly no photos. Thank you for sharing. We Love our Roots
