Y’all are absolutely rocking the clothes from the collection, so if you’re curious about the cosmetics behind the Atomic Ranch editorial, Lisa Martensen’s got you covered!
“This whole collection is very retro,” Lisa said. “And so was the setting for the shoot, and all the props, et cetera, so it was important that the girls’ look carried that same era. My vision, cosmetically, was Brigitte Bardot, that very quintessential ‘60s look, mixed with the country western artists of that same time, so really big hair and lots of backcombing. Funny story: I used so much hairspray that I set off the CO2 alarm in the RV six different times! That’s a career first!”
Here are Lisa’s product picks and a few little tips for getting the Atomic Ranch look:
“Go with a full-coverage foundation on this one, whatever you’ve found that you like for your complexion. If you need a little concealer, I always like Tarte Shape Tape. And then I finish it off with a setting powder from Laura Mercier.”
“It’s a little more defined of a brow than I usually do – you know my motto is usually furry and blurry – but this look is a little more defined, so I went with a cream rather than a powder.”
“You don’t really need a shadow with this look, but if you do one, keep it nude and neutral. The emphasis is on the eyeliner, that ‘60s-style wing. Kind of a thick line, and only on the top lid. I also added some false lashes to the girls for this look, again that 1960s high-fashion vibe, but you definitely don’t have to.”
“You could probably use your RMS Demure here, if you already have it. I like a cream blush for this look, and definitely a blush rather than a bronzer. This one is a little more on the peachy side.”
“Lipstick on first, top it with a gloss, pretty simple. This shade of Charlotte Tillbury is described as a peachy-nude, which is what I would strive for with this look. It’s true to the whole Brigitte Bardot-inspired look I’m creating, and since the eyeliner is heavy, we want to keep the lip understated. Another thing to keep in mind is that most of the reds in this collection are retro and rustic, so I wouldn’t recommend having a red lip compete with that.”
*We actually didn’t have any luck finding this one and think it might be discontinued, but this link will give you an idea of the color and also, if you scroll down, it lists some dupes.
“I feel like dry shampoo for dark hair is kind of a best-kept secret and it can be a game changer if you’re brunette. You know, dry shampoo isn’t just for when you’ve gone too many days between washes – the models come to me clean! – but it’s a great texture builder, too. And I don’t default to hairspray in most looks, but if you need to build a back-combed bouffant, Hard Head is a good one. Just beware of the CO2 sensors!”
