Punxsutawney Phil predicts we’re in for six more weeks of winter, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get the jump on a little spring cleaning – specifically, our closets. Whether you’re rolling up your sleeves for a major pare down or just ready for a little wardrobe refresh, this is the insider info from our gals in the know on what you should hang on to, what you should get rid of (or at least shelve for now), and what you’ll want to add to your repertoire ASAP.

    WHAT TO KEEP:

REDS – This bright, bold hue is going to carry strong into spring and all the way through summer, and don’t be surprised if it sticks around through fall, and *hint hint* hold on to your wine hues for winter.

BUTTON-DOWNS – These are quintessential classics always, but you’ll find you really want to keep them in rotation for the foreseeable future. From silky satiny blouses to printed pearl snaps to crisp cotton classics with a bit of bling, they’re going to be your friend for layering, both as the under and the over.

WIDE-LEG TROUSERS/JEANS – Keep. Them. All. Your Pitchwagon, your Native Tea, your Tracing Trinidad, even your Daughter of the Moon – this look is not going anywhere anytime soon! Pro Tip: start also keeping an eye out for barrel jeans, they’re about to make a big splash with some staying power.

    WHAT TO CULL:

SKINNY JEANS – This might be old news (millennials and Gen Z have been fighting about it for a couple years now), but we are moving on from that suck-you-in, slim-fit-all-the-way-to-the-ankles silhouette of jeans. And amen, am I right? Give me a ‘Mom jean’ any day!

    Skinny Jeans

STILETTOS – Speaking of things we’re not sad to see go for the sake of comfort, you can kick those sky-high skinny heels to the curb. Instead, treat your feet to the lowkey luxury of platform tennies, chunky-heeled loafers, and obviously, cowboy boots and mules!

NEONS – ‘Dopamine Dressing’ had its moment and broke us out of our pandemic fashion funk, but the clock’s run out on highlighter hues and Barbie-core for now.

    WHAT TO COP:

CIRCULAR SKIRTS – The Mitchell’s Gallery Skirt is a great example, it’s a full-sweep flowy silhouette. They are feminine, they are flattering, they are fabulous – and they’re about to be everywhere.

PATIO SETS (TOPS & SKIRTS) – Probably not a term you’re super familiar with, the Party on the Plaza pieces will give you a good visual. It’s kind of effortless-yet-alluring. The style started to re-emerge in actual vintage/thrifted pieces, but as it gained popularity, designers have brought it back to life with a fresh feel.

CROPPED JACKETS – Don’t get rid of your dusters, but adding a jacket or two to your arsenal that hit at the waist or just above will add some optical appeal that complements the fuller silhouettes we’ll be seeing on the bottom in skirts and jeans.

Lol, amen to the above response!
I love slouchy and wide leg jeans, but barrel leg ones make you look like you just got off a broad back haflinget horse!

Please, NO to the barrel jeans!!! I may be old, but I still have my eyesight. In my opinion, barrel jeans make a person look bow legged and I find that offensive to people whose legs are bowed!! Just sayin….
