The ribbon has been cut and we’re officially Round Top residents! Well, our cute little shop is, anyway.
The Round Top Ribbon Cutting in action

An enormous and heartfelt “thank you” to everyone who made the trip to help us celebrate this sentimental milestone and take part in the ceremony solidifying this lifelong dream of ours!

“It still feels a bit surreal and extremely wonderful,” Cheryl said. “We do get caught up in all the hustle and bustle of what it means to run three different locations, all the daily to-do lists and minutiae and moving parts, but let me tell you something: we never take it for granted. There was a moment during the event where my sisters and I looked out over the group of gals who showed up to share in this with us – just shopping and smiling and sipping their signature cocktails — and we got a little choked up. It’s y’all who made this place possible, and then for y’all to show up to support and celebrate… we’re truly blessed with the best.”

If you weren’t able to make it to the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, we hate to say it, but you really missed out this time. First of all, there is just a charm to Round Top in the spring; you kind of can’t have a bad time in that cute little town. And second, of COURSE, Double D did it up right, as we are wont to do!

“When the chamber reached out to us about doing a ribbon cutting, they actually said, ‘You can make it as lowkey as you want’, and I couldn’t help but laugh out loud,” Mitchell said. “Like, ‘You must not be familiar with how we do things.’ So, we booked a band, hired a caterer and bartenders, and invited all of our nearest and dearest – who also did not disappoint, by the way!”

We had live music from the lovely Black Cat Choir, a charcuterie spread by Tara Royer Steele of The Bake Shop in Brenham, and perhaps the cutest part: signature cocktails, served up by Sage Root Cocktail Co., representing each of the McMullen ladies and their unique tastes and traits! (Shoutout to our graphic designer Macy Belton, for the adorable signage!) And our chain-stitcher, Robin, was working fast and furious to crank out complimentary customization in turquoise script on brown bandanas – such a fun souvenir!

The turnout was remarkable – literally, everyone and their dog came! – and naturally, everyone was dolled up in their DDR, ranging from vintage right up to Romance & Rustlers. The overall vibe was very genuine and genial. Hedy gave a short-and-sweet speech, it took Audrey a few tries to get those oversized scissors through the ribbon, and it took Cheryl (and then Bryson… and then Kristen…) more than a few tries to get that stubborn champagne open! (Always a comedy of errors with this crew!)

And let’s not forget the unveiling of the Casita! Our expectations were pretty high, but this baby exceeded them by a country mile. We teamed up with Lisa Martensen of Martensen Interiors out of Dallas (yes, the same Lisa who makes up our models!) to execute a vibrant vision that is unlike anything else we’ve ever done, yet still distinctly DDR. Y’all, it is the cutest, most colorful and charming Casita – complete with turquoise appliances and a life-sized neon Elvis! You’ve gotta come see it.

BUT, if your FOMO is coming on strong, do not fret! This is just the very beginning of DDR’s jam-packed and super-fun spring schedule in Round Top.

Round Top’s annual Spring Market kicks off March 20th through April 6th, and that alone is worth marking your calendar and making the trek, so if you’re venturing over to do some vintage shopping and ogle antiques, we encourage you to coordinate with one of our upcoming events!

“I think we said yes to basically every fashion show on the agenda!” Audrey laughed. “As it’s all approaching, I’m starting to realize we might be insane, but I know they’re all going to be amazing in their unique way, and we’re actually honored to be a part of all of them – especially our first spring in town!”

MARCH 21st – Worn & Weathered Fashion Show

Come support us as we strut our stuff on stage in the first of four (yes, FOUR!) fashion shows we’re participating in. The theme is “How the West Was Worn, " which is right up our alley! We can’t wait to showcase some of our spring looks in this creative collaboration with 303, and it’s certain to be a spectacle worth watching!

MARCH 25th – Cowboy Couture: A Western Luxe Fashion Activation

This is going to be an evening unlike any other. The upscale event is going to be packed with the veritable Who’s Who of the high-end Western world. We’ll be featured alongside the likes of Lucchesse, Kemo Sabe, Westerly, Cyrus Goodheart, and more! Perhaps the coolest element is that renegade Western artist Laura Goodson will be custom-painting a garment from each designer! You definitely don’t want to miss this one.

    MARCH 26th – 550 Market Fashion Show

The Five-Fifty Market is rolling out the red carpet for this year’s fashion show, and you’d better believe DDR is going to be a part of it! Grab a GA just to come see the style strutting down the runway, or spring for a VIP or Platinum Ticket to get in on the Speakeasy Pre-Show Cocktail Party.

MARCH 27th – Vintage Renegades Runway by Dirty Bohemian

Get ready to experience a night of Western vintage fashion and renegade style. Hosted by the iconic Dirty Bohemian, this catwalk will showcase a curated arrangement of primo fashions (DDR included, of course!), presented in one amazing location. You'll be served a fabulous menu of hors d'oeuvres by Chef Nichole Petrie & signature cocktails by The Crown Bar. Tickets are very limited for this event, with a handful of VIP tickets, so don't hesitate to reserve your seat. The event starts @ 7:30, but we encourage you to come early to stroll the magical gardens, weather permitting. An unforgettable evening filled with western flair!

And just in case all that couture doesn’t have your head spinning – guess what we’re doing right in the middle of it all? A big ol’ BINGO fundraiser!

“Obviously, we want everyone to attend everything – always – but I would say if you could only pick ONE Round Top DDR event to attend, it should be this one,” Hedy said with a sly smile, to the side-eyed chagrin of Cheryl, who’s worked her you-know-what off on these fashion shows. “No, but jokes aside, this one is important to us for a whole different reason. It’s not to promote ourselves – and we’re dang sure not making any money on it! – but we’re continuously committed to giving back to the community, and that means every community we’re in, whether it’s Yoakum or Fort Worth or Round Top. You wouldn’t believe the amount of work we’ve put into this event, and we’re basically giving away the farm with these bingo prizes! We just hope it’s really well attended; it’ll be worth it to be able to write a big check.”

Join us in Round Top for a night of benevolent BINGO benefitting the Washington County Senior Center! But don’t let the good cause fool ya – this is NOT your granny’s BINGO night! It’s going to be a P-A-R-T-Y. We’re talking DJ, lights, a photo booth, dinner, drinks, the whole 9 yards. Plus, these precious little souvenir pouches you’ll pick up at the store, stocked with your BINGO cards and custom DDR daubers.

Each $200 ticket scores you dinner, two drink tokens, and 10 chances to win some fabulous prizes, with the option to purchase a second set for $100 to double your odds — PLUS, a $30 MEGA card for the special 11th round! (The prizes alone are worth it, but keep in mind, it’s for a good cause!) All net proceeds will go toward the WCSC, which serves the Round Top community and surrounding areas.
