A shoutout to everyone who attended our morning makeup session at this year’s Addiction Meetup. We hope y’all enjoyed it as much as we did!

We’re very grateful that Lisa Martensen, who has been doing our hair and makeup since nearly day one of DDR, was able to come do a demo, share tips and tricks and ALL sorts of product recommendations! She made our Hedy and Cheryl look just fabulous for the Friday festivities, and two of our lucky ladies – Lisa Hurd and Cheryl Luna – also got makeovers after winning the drawing. It was an all-around entertaining and informative event, a lot of gals won special prizes in our giveaways, and everyone went home with a new makeup bag stocked full of goodies from our partners at Dillard’s!

We were thrilled to see so many folks really took an interest and were scribbling notes like mad, so we thought it might be beneficial if we shared all we learned with our whole Wolf Pack via the blog.

    TIPS:
    • If you have much pigment to your skin at all, like Hedy, you’re most likely going to need to blend a couple different shades of foundation to get a really natural match.
    • Matte eyeshadow is best for mature skin; it’s very forgiving.
    • Buy the travel size: mascara, concealer, etc. because it dries out, you lose it, or you melt it with a curling iron.
    • If your makeup does dry out (like your MAC liner, etc) you can re-emulsify it with a little bit of baby oil.
    • Do a bold eye or a bold lip, but never both. If you want a red lip, go nude on the eye; if you want a smokey eye*, do a nude lip.
    • *If you plan to do a smokey eye, do that first so you can easily clean up the fall-off before you do your face makeup. (If you do need to clean up, she recommends a little moisturizer on a Q-tip.)
    • For your face makeup, if you’re maturing, it’s time to lose the matte; a dewy face will appear younger.
    • Lisa also shared a hack that you can buy nylon paint brushes at Michaels or Hobby Lobby to apply your makeup.
