“Why wait until January?!” laughed Audrey. “That’s six whole months! Imagine the progress you’ll have made by then if you start now! Get it together! No, I’m kidding – kind of – but this is something I really find value in doing. I do it with myself and I try to do it with my teams, just a mid-year check-in; it’s a good chance to recommit to some New Year’s resolutions you might’ve started slipping on, or to rethink and replace them if they’re not serving you anymore. Maybe they no longer align with your goals, or maybe you conquered them already. If you wanted to, I don’t know, lose a certain number of pounds or save X amount of money, and you did that already, time for a new goal!”
July 1st marks the middle of the year – which is on Wednesday – and listen, we’re not sticklers, but if you’re the kind of person who appreciates a clean beginning and end, that means you’ve got a few days to come up with some Mid-Year’s Resolutions of your own. Obviously, resolutions are a pretty personal choice, but everyone could use a little inspiration.
Want to do something BODY? Try committing to your water intake, your steps goal, or even your skincare routine. Small changes can make a big impact on how we feel in our own skin.
Maybe you’re more concerned about flexing your BRAIN. What about signing up for a learn-on-your-own-time service like Master Class? Learn how to play mahjong. Challenge yourself to complete all the New York Times brain games (Wordle, Connections, crosswords, etc.) while you have your morning coffee.
You could also focus your energy on your SURROUNDINGS. Wallpaper that powder bath, buy a piece of art, declutter your closet. Carve out a space in your home – however small, might only be a corner – that is entirely yours and spend dedicated time grounding yourself there.
And on that note, perhaps it’s time you commit to nurturing your SOUL. Pencil in a weekly FaceTime date with your mom/daughter/best friend or anyone long distance you feel better after connecting with. Get a girls’ trip on the calendar. Make it a mission to get to know your neighbors. Or, if it’s not about interpersonal connections (though, we’d argue they’re always good for the soul), maybe you take up journaling, meditating, or therapy.
But let’s not forget, while all those are areas deserving of your efforts of improvement, not all resolutions HAVE to be about betterment! Much like Heather Burch’s lofty commitment to 365 Days of DDR, it can just be about something that brings you joy! Make yourself put on a little lipstick every day. Host a theme party where your guests get a chance to show off that one thing in their closet they love but have never had anywhere to wear. Compile a bucket list of half a dozen places in your city you still haven’t visited yet – restaurants, museums, parks, theaters – and check one of a month for the rest of the year.
Mid-Year is also the perfect time to cleanse and release. Perhaps the first half of this year was not kind to you, and it is something you’d rather close the chapter on. You’re not alone. There are several planner options (Papier, Wykehams) that start in July, so you can embrace 2026 version 2.0 with a clean slate. And on that note, there are some very cool companies that let you build a planner completely custom to your needs, including the start date (Golden Coil, So Typical Me).
But, if you just want to jump in on the fun with us, you can download/print one of our custom designed DDR Mid-Year Resolutions PDFs and jot down your own list of ways you’re going to make the rest of 2026 even better. If you feel like it, we’d love for you to share them in the Double D Addiction Facebook group – maybe you’ll inspire someone!
