It’s that time again! We’re back at the Mothership, playing dress-up with our Double D darlings in the first collection of 2025, Romance & Rustlers. What started out as a fun little exercise around the office has quickly evolved into a standing tradition and a fan favorite because it showcases really cute gals with real bodies rocking the collection in everyday outfits – and everyone with their own little spin on styling!

This time, we did things just a little bit differently. We delegated a date and invited all of our Yoakum employees to come camera-ready in their favorite pieces from this collection – and then we stuck a microphone in their face! Being the good sports they always are, they gave us quick quips about what they picked and why.

Before we hear from all our little lovelies in their spring styles, a shoutout to our MC, Leeann Wenske, who is our sweet and super-savvy Social Media Manager and is absolutely ROCKIN’ the cayenne Sonora Jacket!

“I am a little biased when it comes to this, I love it so much. It was strategically designed as a top and a skirt, but you can easily pair it together to get that dress look. I think it’s a special set because these patio skirts and patio tops are getting harder and harder to find. A lot of them are deteriorating, they’re faded, they sat in an attic too long. So this gives you that period-specific look, but it’s beautiful and it’s fresh and it’s new. I absolutely love it, I feel very pretty in it!”

“I like all the Double D style of hardware, all the rivets and buttons – I love all the metal. I picked red because it’s almost Valentine’s Day (if you see this by Valentine’s Day), and the red is just a real pretty springy red, it’s not a dark wintery red and I just thought it was fun and bright. I don’t wear a lot of red – I’m usually a blue girl, and a blue jean girl – but the red seemed really fun.”

“Well, I love A.R. Mitchell’s folk art and I love our version of it, with the little ruffles that give it a more feminine look, and all the beadwork and details – it’s just great!”

“Black is my favorite color, and it goes with my boots! And I love this toile [top] from Wide Open Trails, I really like the combo, so that’s why I chose it.”

“The red spoke to me, I love it. It’s just beautiful, vibrant – perfect for spring, for some of our cool days. It’s a lightweight jacket, so it’s kind of perfect for me. I just love it!”

We caught a couple of our models on a particularly busy day, and they weren’t feeling quite up for the whole on-camera interview thing (which we totally get), so we followed up with them ex post facto about why they’re partial to their picks.

“I love the Rodeo Sweetheart Top! It is so soft and comfy – it’s just a great piece to add to your wardrobe.”

Kristin Klier, Lead Designer: ROMANCE & RUSTLERS DRESS

“To me, this dress embodies – and explains, in a sense – the collection as a whole. It has an overall air of romance, with just that little edge of rustlers. The silhouette is romantic and flattering, and the colors give a vintage Western feeling, and the artwork, of course, is authentic cowboys. I think it’s sort of a representation of how we, in the 21st Century, romanticize the Wild West.”

And then there was our resident source of sass and sarcastic comedy, the inimitable Doris Loredo, who forgot about the assignment entirely, but happened to show up Romance & Rustlers-ready that day (because her outfit is always on point) and got roped into the photoshoot anyway!

DORIS LOREDO: RANCHER'S QUEST JACKET & THE REAL COWBOY TOP

“I wasn’t going to take a pic, but I did happen to wear the Real Cowboy Top because I love it – for all the same reasons Susie said, but also because of what it forgives, if you know what I mean. But when I saw that Susie also had the top on, I ran over to the outlet and grabbed the [RANCHER’S QUEST] jacket because I like those together – I like the hide and the fringe, and the trim matches the top. But anyway, I wasn’t planning to take a picture and Mitchell better have photoshopped it or else don’t run it!”

(Fortunately, she’s on vacation right now, and she won’t know until Monday that we ran it anyway because she’s every bit as fabulous as she is feisty, and she always wears Double D well. Love you, Doris!)
