Today is Nudie Cohn's Birthday.

Happy Birthday, Nudie and thanks for blazing the bling trail!

Nudie Cohn1  1
Nudie in a Nutshell:
  • Ukrainian-born Jewish-American tailor, who after making rhinestone g-strings for New York showgirls, eventually came to Hollywood and set up shop
  • Originator of the rhinestone cowboy look and designer of Hollywood western wear for stage and TV
  • Designed Elvis' famous gold lame suit for the album cover, 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong
  • Known as the 'Rodeo Tailor'
  • Designer of the Nudie-Mobiles - customized GM vehicles with typical Nudie icons, such as silver-dollar-studded dashboards, pistol door handles, and actual longhorn hood ornaments.
  • Celebrity client list includes: Porter Wagoner, Gram Parsons, Flying Burrito Bros, Roy Rogers, John Lennon, Elton John, Johnny Cash, Teddy Pendergrass, Rex Allen, Gene Autry, John Wayne, Audie Murphy and the list goes on

Since I'm celebrating Nudie, I thought I would pull a Nudie-inspired Double D Ranch piece out of our archives and feature it today. This collector piece is called Rock and Star Rodeo and is ca. fall of 2005.

and now for the "Trivia for Tees" game...

Trivia Question #2:

What CBS television sitcom featured one of Nudie Cohn's Nudie-Mobiles?

I’m hoping this is where you want the answers submitted – The Nudie-mobile was in The Dukes of Hazzard.

Jessica, yes it was used there, but we are looking for a CBS “sitcom”. Ponder on it and submit again.

Actually, they wanted to use the Nudie-Mobile for the Dukes of Hazards movie but the Nudie heirs were afraid it might get damaged. Think some more and try again.

Was it Dukes of Hazzard? I was thinking maybe Boss Hogg’s car. Webb Pierce’s Bonneville done by Nudie with silver dollars, pearl-handled pistols, and longhorns in the Country Music Hall of Fame is worth the trip to Nashville.

Can you tell us if it was a long-running sitcom or an obscure one?
