Inside that seemingly bottomless trunk of Granny’s, we’d find all sorts of sundry accessories, including beautiful bonnets and lace-brimmed hats.

“There was this one hat,” Cheryl recalled. “I’ll never forget it. It had no top, no crown really, it was just this elegant lace brim, and I just thought it was so unique and lovely. We all wanted to be the one who got to wear that hat in our make-shift runway shows we’d put on for our grandparents on the side porch. There were also a lot of bonnets, which were fun for us to play in because even back then, they felt like they were “before our time”, and they ignited our imagination for playing pretend.”

While none of that felt particularly on-brand, we did want to create a topper that felt authentic to both the era and Double D, so we developed these darling denim newsboy caps. They’re a traditional brimmed silhouette in a classic stone-washed denim, and they’re available in plain or pinned. You can get one that’s already been uniquely adorned with vintage pins that were carefully chosen and arranged, making each cap truly one-of-a-kind; if that’s not really your style or you’d rather not leave the pins and placement up to chance, you can get the pin-free version and style it yourself!
