Sometimes called Royston, Ribbon, or Boulder turquoise (or some combination of the three), this exquisite stone is characterized by the turquoise veins formed within the host stone, most often chert, shale, or limestone.
All turquoise is inherently one-of-a-kind in that it’s a naturally occurring stone, but these stunning stones take that uniqueness to another level as it tends to showcase a singular ribbon of turquoise, a signature stripe that is impossible to replicate, against a neutral setting. It makes for beautiful specimen stones that often serve as the focal points of statement rings, bolo slides, and pendants.
This particular type of turquoise is harvested from the Boulder Mine in northeast Nevada, hence the name. Because of the mine’s remote location and extreme weather conditions, production is very limited, which makes the stone highly coveted not only for its beauty but also because it’s remarkably rare.
