As you’ve learned by now, a big part of our editorial photoshoots is smoke and mirrors, primarily making it appear somewhere we’re not – like when we turned downtown Yoakum into Nashville and a dried river bed into the moon. While we really, really wanted to shoot this collection in the real Monument Valley, geography, logistics, and let’s face it, costs, prohibited it. So, we aimed for somewhere that not only had the similar visual appearance, but also provided that same majestic, soulful, and reverent atmosphere about it. We landed on Sedona.

If you’ve never been to Sedona, put it on your list. The scenery is nothing short of breathtaking, and yet that’s not even the most moving thing about it. Sedona, Arizona has long been revered as a place of spiritual healing, of sacred energy, and of an aura of wellness. A quick google will provide you with a long list of retreats and itineraries for totally transforming your mind and body, and we definitely encourage you to book a weekend (or week!) of respite if that’s something your soul is seeking.

Of course, we were there on a mission to capture the collection against the background of the canyon, so rest and rejuvenation were unfortunately not on our agenda. But if you just want a getaway to somewhere stunningly beautiful, these are a few recs for eat, play, stay.

    STAY: Ambiente Sedona

Full disclaimer: This is for sure a resort-style stay, and the price tag reflects it. It’s beautifully and intentionally designed to maximize the scenery and tranquil surroundings of Sedona, complemented by an exquisite spa and dining experience and accommodations. It’s definitely a milestone birthday/anniversary or special occasion kind of trip.

PLAY: A Day in the West Jeep Tours

Obviously, a large part of the allure in Arizona is the unique landscape, the feeling of being immersed in the topography, the colorful canyons and creations of millions of years at Mother Nature’s hand. We had an excellent experience with A Day in the West during the photographing of Monument Valley and these cool, kitschy Jeep tours offer a curated experience that allows you to expertly explore all the Sedona red rocks has in store.

    EAT: Hideaway House

Once you’ve worked up an appetite with all that soul-searching and sight-seeing, check out this super-cute Sedona staple! From the entrees to the ambiance, Hideaway House is unique and elevated – figuratively and literally! – dining experience. The food is excellent and the view is exquisite, it’s an all-around must-try.
