ONE PROUD MAMA: HELEN KEENER

It doesn’t matter how old you are or how famous you get, your mama is still your mama. She can bring you back down to earth and she can make you feel on top of the world. She can be your biggest fan, your toughest critic, and the only voice you’ll listen to when she tells you, “you can do this. Keep going.”

In January, we got to meet, interview, and photograph one of the best fiddle players the music industry has ever seen, Jenee Fleenor. We had the extra special pleasure of meeting her mother, Helen Keener, who was the most charming delight.

She had driven to Nashville all the way from Springdale, Arkansas. She let us dress her up and sit her down and ask her some candid questions about raising a child prodigy and the moment it was announced that her daughter was the first female in history to be awarded the Country Music Association’s Musician of the Year.

The conversation was so genuine and heartwarming we knew we had to share it, and what better time than Mother’s Day. We can’t even put it into words, you just need to see for yourself.
