Our work with Maura Allen on Past & Present was a true collaboration. While a few of the images we featured in pieces and prints were works that already existed, much of what appears in this collection was created specifically for us, using the design footprint we’d already established.
“I think most important was the color palette,” explained Maura. “It was unexpected and way outside my range of colors I would traditionally use. For an artist, this is the best thing that can happen. The pinks and the greens, and the poison greens that everyone loves. The turquoise, the rich wine, the rodeo brown. As a painter, I get to choose the color of the sky. It can be orange sky and a purple moon, or it can be mint green – what y’all call ‘mineral’ internally, and I now call ‘Double D sky’.”
She answered the call spectacularly, executing her signature style in hues that you’d never know once felt foreign to her. In turn, we transformed these modern masterpieces into timeless wearable works of art in our own signature style of silks and suedes. The outcome was (literally) breathtaking.
“When Kaylin emerged from the Ghost Ranch rocks in the Ameah Dreaming Jacket, I actually gasped,” Maura recalled. “It was like she was meant to be there, and that image was meant to be on that jacket. It felt full circle.”
