Behind The Halles, where our charming mercantile-style store resides in Round Top, there are a handful of concrete casitas available for rent. They’re cute, convenient, and surprisingly, carbon neutral.

“It sounds insane, but these buildings are 3D-printed concrete,” Cheryl said. “You have to see it for yourself, but it’s very cool. It’s a unique shape, the rooms are rounded – which made it kind of hard to furnish, actually – but it’s absolutely mind-blowing to stand in there and realize, ‘this whole place was printed by a machine’.”

There are five casitas arranged in a community set-up, sharing access to a couple of ‘Cowboy Pools’ and a full-service gym. Each casita has its own unique identity, and ours is Casita #5. It consists of two queen bedrooms, two full baths, a living room, and a kitchenette, all decked out with Double D charm.

“It’s not really ‘ours’, but it is our own, ya know?” said Cheryl. “Renting it doesn’t happen through us, but we took total ownership of it as a project, a chance to create a space that was a stone’s throw from our porch in Round Top, where our people could come and stay and make it feel like a whole DDR experience.”

And it is packed with DDR personality – vibrant hues, one-of-a-kind décor, and touches of twang everywhere you look. We enlisted Lisa Martensen – whose name you may recognize as our longtime hair-and-makeup guru, but is also an exceptionally talented interior designer – to help us execute an aesthetic that speaks to our individuality.

“The thing that defines Double D is that it gets your attention,” explained Lisa. “It’s unique and inimitable. It makes an impression. It was my job to take that intrinsic characteristic and translate it into an interior that was equally as unforgettable.”

Among the unforgettable attributes? Vintage-style appliances, an abundance of artwork, and of course, a 6’ foot neon Elvis.

“It had to be life-sized,” Lisa laughed. “Anything less wouldn’t have made the same impact. It’s the difference between eye-catching and Instagram-able.”

She’s not wrong – one review simply states, “This whole place is Insta-worthy!” You can reserve the Double D Ranch Casita through AirBnB. Naturally, it books quickly during show and festival times, but it’s still worth snagging during the down times for a girls’ weekend and some shopping – our Round Top store will be happy to have you!
