Heimweh (pronounced “haym-vey”) is your new favorite word you haven’t heard of yet. There is no English word that accurately sums up the sentiment, but it’s so universally relatable that once you learn it, there is no doubt you’ll be working it into your everyday vernacular.
Heimwehis a German word often roughly translated to “nostalgia” or “homesickness”. It has been perhaps more accurately explained as “longing to travel to a place where you feel at home”, which is both beautiful, and in a way, painfully poetic, and it feels like the internal flame that fuels the journey of the nomad.
