We want to wish all the moms out there a very, very Happy Mother’s Day! Our Wolf Pack is absolutely chock full of amazing women who need to be celebrated, whether they’ve got their own babies and grandbabies, are blessed with Bonus Children, or pour their hearts into being the best dog/cat/animal moms around – or all of the above! But, at the end of the day, when it comes to Mamas, we were blessed with the best!

Margie McMullen – ‘Mom’ to us, ‘Nana’ to many – is the embodiment of maternal essence. She’s literally our mother, who wonderfully raised us three wide-eyed wolf cubs and miraculously kept us (mostly) on the straight and narrow despite our strong-willed ways, big ideas, and even bigger personalities, and she’s the most remarkable grandmother and great-grandmother to the trickle-down of children our family tree. But beyond her natural-born role of motherhood, she’s the matriarch to us all – every employee of DDR, past and present, and even so many of our Wolf Pack have come to call Margie “Nana” and truly adopted her as such, and vice versa.

In honor of Mother’s Day, each McMullen sister was posed a different question in regards to Nana, and while their answers are each unique to their personalities, they are common at their core and come down to two key traits that really define Nana, and in turn, Double D: faith and hard work.

To Audrey, our baby sister and baker extraordinaire, we asked, “What would be the recipe for concocting a Nana?”

AUDREY: “Well, when I think of Mom and a recipe, the first thing that comes to mind is her go-to Sunday dinner: fried steak in the oven, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and sweet corn! But let’s see, if I had to whip up a Nana from scratch… One cup of sugar for sweetness, a cup – or probably two – of hard work, a cup of godliness, a sprinkle of salt, and a pinch of cayenne for a little kick you didn’t see comin’!”

To Hedy, who got Mama’s deep dimples and looks the most like her, we asked “Aside from her good looks, what other traits do you think you inherited from her?”

HEDY: “I think I got her work ethic. She is a relentless workhorse; I promise you, you can’t outwork her. She never just sits and rests, she is constantly doing something. We are all like that when it comes to Double D.”

Following up with, “What is something about Nana that would surprise people?

HEDY: “Mom is an open book. She is kind and thoughtful and literally an angel here on Earth.”

To Cheryl, the first-born and visionary behind the brand, we asked, “What do you think is the most significant lesson or mantra Nana instilled in you girls?”

CHERYL: “Faith, preserving, and working really hard. Prayers, perseverance, and hard work have gotten her through some really tough and trying times. Without her faithful prayers, we would be a total mess!”
