This season’s signature print is about as timeless and sophisticated as it gets.

Sometimes called ‘prince’s plaid’, it has an inherent regalness about it. It’s preppy and posh with an equestrian lean.

“When we were concepting this collection, creating a glen plaid was kind of a non-negotiable,” Cheryl explained. “It just felt so important to the style story. I mean, when you spot a glen plaid, you’re instantly in that East Coast equestrian frame of mind, which is exactly where we wanted the audience to be when receiving the Nu Rodeo. But then, of course, came the challenge of, ‘How do we make it authentically Double D?’”

We made it our own by experimenting with it in a few different ways. We adjusted the colors to work with the chambray that’s so important to the style story this season, which in itself lends a Western edge. Then, we played with amplifying the scale of it.

“A lot of glen plaid tends to trend toward the tinier side,” Cheryl said. “We decided to add some drama to it by scaling it way up, particularly in the Call’em Square pieces. In doing that, we make it less of a background print and more of a main character. And then, I think by printing it on leather changed the game.”

Even in the pieces that see the Nu Rodeo glen plaid in a more traditional sense – a smaller scale, crafted in knits and wovens – we made it our own with embellishments like Western welts and contrast toebug-style stitching, just little DDR touches that blend the East Coast aesthetic with Western twang.
