“My overall mantra in creating this look was polished, pretty, & fresh,” explained Lisa Martensen. “Not too done-up, because they are riding after all, but also not too gritty, because they’re riding English. The hair is very tamed, very intentional – smoothed down and gathered low, in a ponytail for Kaylin and a classic, neat chignon for Lozzie – and the makeup is light and pretty, with pink tones. Keep it soft and blended; no harsh contours, no dramatic eyes or lips.”
Here are a few of her tips and product recommendations for recreating the Nu Rodeo look!
“Natural, but improved,” she laughed. “I would keep it to just a concealer and maybe a tinted moisturizer, if you can get away with it. I tend to start with painting on a little Tarte Shape Tape concealer with a flat makeup brush to blend out any redness or dark spots. Remember, overall for the face – especially if you have more mature skin – lean more toward dewy than matte.”
“I filled in the brows with a soft brown powder, actually an eyeshadow, rather than a sharp pencil. I don’t want them to be a hard drawn-on brow, but I did groom them with a Glossier brow gel to set the powder.”
“Again, keep it soft. No liner at all. I started with a Glossier Stretch Balm Concealer for a medium, dewy coverage. I layered a couple different shadow colors, but the end-goal was a plum-ish mauve near the lash lines.”
“Rosey with lots of gloss. I used two shades of Glossier Cloud Paint Plush Blush – billow, which is kind of an orchid, blended with Soar, which is a bright pink. Carry the blush on the apples of the cheeks, the top of the forehead, over the bridge of the nose. Avoid contouring; it’s too harsh and brown for this look.”
“RMS, baby! (laughs) You know it’s a favorite of mine! This time, I used the Lip2Cheek shade Illusive, which they describe as a ‘burnt berry nude with a hint of plum’. Just blot it on the lips for a softened effect, and no liner.”
