THE TALENT OF THE FIRST NATIONS
This saddle bag was crafted in the early 20th century most likely by theCree or Metis First Nations tribes from Canada, It's made from leather and suede with silk embroidery floss on the cover flaps. The Canadian mission schools encouraged embroidery as a domestic pursuit, and women specialized in silk embroidery like this which primarily consisted of floral motifs.
