The pun in the title only works if you know how to say ketoh, which (in case you don’t) is ‘gay-toh’.

The history of the ketoh goes back to Navajo archers and the bands they wore to protect their forearms from the snap of their bowstrings. These stiff leather guards were eventually embellished by silversmiths with conchos, silver buttons, and turquoise stones. They ceased to be functional archery gear and instead became worn as decorative jewelry.

“Oh, I love a ketoh!” Cheryl said. “They’re such a strong statement piece. They’re bold, they’re striking. But I think that’s why some people shy away from them, but really, they’re very wearable and versatile – for a man or a woman. I definitely encourage you, if you’ve never owned one, to come into the Mothership or the Fort Worth store and try a few on. I think you’ll find that you feel pretty cool in a ketoh, empowered – badass, even!”

Here are few fun ways to style them if you’re new to the ketoh game:

    DOUBLE DOWN

In their original intent, ketohs were only worn on a single wrist as protection, but as accessories, we love the look of rocking one on each arm. Why not?! Sometimes you can find a pair, or mix and match ones that are still kind of cohesive for an overall look.

    FRAME ‘EM UP

Slide on some stackers with them. Whether you want to go with a classic sterling silver or something eye-catching colorful like a Federico Jimenez contemporary cuff, pairing a couple slender stackers on either side of your ketoh is a cool, curated look.

    GO OVER THE TOP

This is something we absolutely love to do when styling a shoot: put it on over your sleeve! Whether it’s a Henley, a pearl snap, a cashmere sweater, whatever – it’s a very chic way to rock your ketoh.
