In creating the look for Gentry Road, we were kind of in a paradox. On the one hand, we wanted it to feel elevated and upscale. On the other hand, we wanted it to feel genuine cowgirl, authentic to our story of growing up in the stables and on the horse racing scene. So, we landed on the concept “natural glam”, and like she always does, our makeup guru, Lisa Martensen, executed it to perfection.

“Let the skin shine first,” Lisa said. “Let that be the star. It’s a day in the barn, or at the racetrack, so there’s really not a need to overdo the eyes or lips. Just bring out a glow.”

“Because the face is kind of the star of this look, you will want to use a foundation, but you don’t want to go too heavy or flawless. I am a big fan of Charlotte Tilbury, I think her products are worth the price, and her Beautiful Skin Foundation has hyaluronic acid in it which is not only good for your skin, but it creates a dewy glow which is perfect for this look.”

“The usual! Soft and full. I filled them in using a brush and a khaki powder shadow that I’m pretty sure is discontinued, but the product is not as important as the technique – and getting the shade right. The goal here is not dark or dramatic, just fuller, so try to keep it within one shade of your natural brow.”

“Matte medium brown. Subtle and soft. Again, we want the skin to shine first, the eyes are not the star so we don’t need to draw too much attention to them. Just a sweep of shadow for dimension, and then you can use a straight brush to line the lids with it if you want, but I would skip an actual eyeliner. And as always, no mascara.”

“This is a go-to favorite of mine, if you follow many of these tutorials you likely already have it in your collection. It’s a great cream blush with a soft pink tint, it adds to the dewy glow we’re going for.”

“Again, really subtle. It’s almost a nude but has just a little soft pink to it. This one is also great because it moisturizes. No liner, just gloss.”
