When it came to creating the look for Cowgirl Rising, it posed an interesting question: what does ‘happy’ look like in terms of makeup?
    Cowgirl Rising Makeup Look

“What’s unique about this look is that we wanted it to look natural, but also vibrant,” explained DDR’s longtime stylist extraordinaire, Lisa Martensen. “The whole vibe of Cowgirl Rising is ‘colorful and confident’ so we brought in some subtle color where we normally night not and a little girlish blush to the cheeks, but mostly let their natural beauty shine. I looked at a lot of Donna’s portraits of these cowgirls, and tried to kind of capture that same essence.”

Here are a few of her tips and tricks as to how she did it.

    FACE:

“Well, first of all, sunscreen – do I even have to say that in 2025? We’re all wearing sunscreen on our face now, right? If you’re not, you need to! Other than that, keep it really light coverage, a sheer foundation just to cover redness and blemishes. The natural texture of the skin should show through.”

    BROW:

“Fill them in with a matte shadow in a khaki color. The goal is to shape and define, but with a soft touch. Avoid going to harsh, dark, or sharp. This look doesn’t have to be overly full, either, like some brows I’ve told you to do – just enhancing your own natural brow a little.”

    EYE:

“This is where we branched out a little. For a lot of DDR looks, we stay well within a neutral palette – browns, copper, maybe a black – but here, because the collection is so centered on color, we wanted to pull that in very subtly. I used a royal blue eye pencil, smudged. Draw it on right at the lash line, and then smudge it with a Q-tip. And as always, I recommend to skip the mascara.”

    CHEEK:

“My go-to! RMS Cream Blush in Demure. It goes on so well and it’s a perfect soft pink. You don’t need to go heavy with it, just blend a little on the apples of your cheeks. It’ll help you look happy, like Donna’s cowgirls.”

    LIP:

“Another place to keep it natural. Line them with something close to your natural lip shade, and then top it with RMS cream lip gloss in bare.”
