  • Thanksgiving Blessings

    November 25, 2009 1 min read

I think Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  No pressure, just good food and family.

    I like that.

    l
Here is our menu for our Thanksgiving meal:
    • 1 Butterball Turkey - it has to be Butterball, Mom insists and she starts basting it around 4 am.
    • Cornbread Dressing - crusty in the corners just the way Hedy likes it  (a family recipe from my paternal grandmother)
    • Giblet Gravy - don't ask, just ladle  it on top of the dressing
    • Sweet Potatoes with Pecan Crumble Topping - almost souffle like
    • Broccoli & Rice Cassarole -  keep the cheese off of one end for Taylor (old 4-H recipe)
    • Cracker Corn Cassarole - family recipe from my maternal grandmother
    • Brandied Cranberries - for Cheryl
    • Other Cranberries - for Hedy
    • Yeast Rolls & Butter
    • 1 Pecan Pie - Mom's recipe from an old Good Houskeeping cookbook
    • 1 Pumpkin Pie with real whipped cream - Jack's request
    • 1 Cherry Pie
    • 1 Texas vs. A&M football game

    God is good.

l I would like to wish you and yours a joyous day recounting all of your blessings.  Let us not forget the hungry & needy as we partake in our bounty. l Vintage Thanksgiving Postcard c. 1912 by John Winsch Also, I want to share a  vintage postcard from Double D Ranch™'s  collection of ephemera.  I love old postcards and this one is very nice.  The artist is John Winsch and dates 1912.  You can't tell from the scan but the illustration is embossed and highlighted in gold.  I purchased it on Ebay several years ago and added it to my collection of vintage postcards of western and Native American imagery.
