Pin, Novelty, Sterling Silver, Fred Harvey, Whirling Logs, Vintage, 340

Size Guide
"Whirling Logs,”or“Fylfot,” it was the symbol of friendship long before it was a“Swastika.”

This vintage pin was created for the tourist market - most likely, Fred Harvey, prior to 1940, when the whirling log symbol was renounced by Pueblo tribes. (see below) Fred Harvey catalogs also removed all “fylfot” products from their stores and catalogs.  Call us “romantic,” but we love the idea of owning a piece of history and we choose to view as a symbol or friendship.

“Because the above ornament which has been a symbol of friendship among our forefathers for many centuries has been desecrated recently by another nation of peoples, Therefore it is resolved that henceforth from this date on and forevermore our tribes renounce the use of the emblem commonly known today as the swastika or fylfot on our blankets, baskets, art objects, sandpaintings and clothing.” -  February 1940 Proclamation
