Double Talk

We don’t know about y’all, but we’re about ready to slam the door shut on 2020 and never look back! But, as this wild year comes to a close, we’re trying to remind ourselves that the year wasn’t ALL bad, and reminisce on some of the most significant moments – and blog posts -- of 2020.

If you’ve been following the ‘I Go Back’ collection from the beginning, you’ve likely come to learn one thing about the McMullen family: we were seemingly always on a road trip. They were all memorable and meaningful in their own right, but it was a fortuitous family ski trip to this tiny New Mexico town that would unwittingly change the trajectory of our lives.

We poured a lot of our heart and our history into ‘I Go Back’, and symbols that represent significant pieces of our lives permeated the collections. We designed those symbols into a series of commemorative charms to celebrate this monumental milestone.

This year has really given a whole new meaning to “all dressed up with nowhere to go”. By the same token, it’s taught us how much our outfit affects our attitude. Get up. Dress up. Show up.

When COVID thwarted our ambitions of taking the team to Nashville, we found that we could photograph the collection right here in our own backyard. This little hidden gem in the heart of Seguin turned out to be the next best thing.

We’ve always been all about embellishments -- we’ll stud and fringe and embroidery anything that doesn’t move -- but we’re not usually big on bling. Well, we pushed our own boundaries with the Nashville collection, bringing the shimmer with not only sparkles but satin.

Our dear friend Carla Curry brought us actual gold records to use as props on our Nashville shoot. We gave them new labels and the album names are deep cuts and inside jokes. We’re giving a Ring of Fire Jacket to anyone who can guess where they came from.

Just like you can’t do Backwoods Barbie without Dolly Parton, you can’t do Nashville without Johnny Cash. His legendary tune Ring of Fire sparked inspiration of a style element we could work with… but we had to do it carefully.

Black is the quintessential complement-and-contrast color. It’s simultaneously grounding and emphatic; it brings a balance to its companion color while also adding emphasis. It’s unique in that way, and absolutely essential.
