STYLE 101: COWPOKE KEY PIECES

Many of us haven’t stood on the schoolhouse steps in quite some time, but “back to school season” is pretty pervasive and seems to transcend time; even though all our kids are out of the house, too, we still feel the shift in the air. So, while it doesn’t necessarily affect us, we still like to embrace it!

Think of it as a fresh start, a beginning of a new season, a reason to reset and refresh. I mean, not like we need a reason to rework our wardrobe, but can you remember anything more exciting than your First Day of School outfit?! We decided it would be fun to play around with some of our picks from Cowpoke U, and how we might style them to strut through the school.

HANG LOOSE & LAYER UP

We love a layered look, no matter the season or the style. It’s basically an opportunity to show off more of your favorites, ya know? We balanced the retro-rodeo vibes of the Hang Loose and Ride ‘Em Top with the classic cowgirl aesthetic of the Cross the Brazos Western Top (ultra-versatile and a personal favorite of ours) over a pair of the chic straight-leg jeans that are all the rage right now. We finished the look with the Cattleman Boot (an all-time fan favorite) and desert pearl accessories that tie back to those custom concho buttons. It’s a look that says you’re cool, classic, and confident!

ALL-STAR STYLE

Perhaps we’re partial, but the Home Run Top over a long-sleeved Henley knocks it out of the park every time. The throwback baseball jersey is a timeless look and the soft chambray pairs perfectly with an army green pant. Finish your ‘fit with your favorite tennies, some silver stackers, and an accent scarf for a pop of personality.

A STAR IN STRIPES

The Drift’n the High Plains Top is what we call a “sleeper pick”, it kind of got lost in the initial awe over the artsy pieces and varsity-chic vibes, but it’s about to be a star staple in a lot of fall wardrobes – we promise! The uniform-width horizontal stripes are a seasonless color combo with universal appeal and it’s got a slouch-chic relaxed crop silhouette that is perfectly balanced with the tailored cut of skinny jeans. Add some stars to your stripes with the Born in the USA shortie boots (in Old White) and punctuate your look with classic desert pearls, a shiny Shawna Erickson cuff, and a pair of (always enviable) Oscar Betz earrings.

OLD SCHOOL COOL

This whole look is a master class in contrast and complements, and we’re kind of obsessed with it. If you’re aiming to perfect “preppy chic”, you can’t do much better than the nostalgic A-Team Sweater over a classic oxford button-down, paired with the ultra-modern (and universally flattering) “butter booty” Bandit Pant – plus, the heathered hues of blue in the sweater are perfectly complemented by the rusty Shasta shade of the pants. Complete the look with the twangy twist of the Longhorn Pee Wee Boots and sleek silver squash blossom accents.
